Landmark Achievement in Civil Registration: First Newborn in Sindh and Pakistan Digitally Registered in Real-Time Through NADRA’s Birth Registration Tool

Hyderabad, July 18, 2025 — In a historic milestone for Pakistan’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system, Messam Abbas has become the first newborn in Sindh and the country to be digitally registered in real-time using NADRA’s Birth Notification Tool.

The digital birth registration was carried out at Sindh Government Hospital, Qasimabad, Hyderabad, marking a new era of efficient, accurate, and real-time civil registration integrated within the health system.

This achievement reflects the Health Department Sindh’s commitment to universal birth registration, ensuring every child’s right to identity, protection, and access to services from birth.

“This landmark digital registration sets a precedent for seamless interoperability between healthcare and civil registration systems, paving the way for real-time, end-to-end CRVS integration in Sindh,” said Dr. Ershad Kazmi, Focal Person–CRVS, Health Department, Government of Sindh.
This breakthrough is part of a broader CRVS reform agenda led by the Government of Sindh, in collaboration with NADRA and UNFPA to achieve 100% digital birth and death registration by 2028.
